The library is a fully equipped lending one, providing information to all those who wish to pursue self-learning. The collection comprises documents covering a wide range of subjects, larger part of which is in English, some in literature in Bengali, Hindi and a sizeable part in French, German, Irish and other European languages. There are over 51225 books on various disciplines including Social Sciences, Arts, Literature and History. There are old and interesting collections of biographical works, philosophy and religion. The Library is open to users 6 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm. An open access library, readers may browse through the collections themselves. Both lending and reference documents are arranged in the numerical sequence of the Dewey Decimal Classification system, which has been updated to the 21st edition. ✓ The library has a Book Bank facility. ✓ In addition to the book collection, the library subscribes to about 70 periodicals, both Indian and foreign - back volumes of about 15 of which are bound and preserved - and 6 newspapers; CD-ROM collection comprising both educational CDs as well as entertainment VCDs and DVDs E-books and e-journals are available through NLIST and EBSCOhost. ✓ A Digital repository is being developed using DSpace Open Source software. ✓ Circulation is through KOHA Open Source Software ✓ Members use Internet for research purposes from 8.30 am to 4 pm, Monday to Saturday. Users are provided with headphones to facilitate listening. ✓ Photo copying facility is available. A collection of Newspaper clippings is being maintained. ✓ A library orientation programme acquaints for new batches of students every year with an Information literacy programme to make user education much more meaningful. Activities A Library Society comprising the entire student body, together with their elected President, Vice-President and Treasurer, organize and participate in various activities as competitions related to books, community, culture and communication. |
